UT Tyler Graduate Hooding Ceremony Save the Date - May 1, 2020

To honor master’s and doctoral graduates of UT Tyler, a Graduate Hooding Ceremony will be held for each college on Friday, May 1 on our Tyler campus.

Family and friends are invited to attend this ceremony. Please RSVP for the event, and to let us know how many guests you’d like to bring. Nursing and Pharmacy students will be contacted by their academic department so do not need to RSVP here. There will be a light reception immediately following the each hooding ceremony, with photo opportunities available around campus. More information about this event will be communicated to students by the Graduate School, and please watch your Patriot email account for a formal invitation.

A gentle reminder for safety and building regulations: The following items are not allowed: balloons, baby strollers, confetti cannons, noise makers, posters, food, or drinks. No equipment or items of any sort may be placed in the aisle as these pose hazards to attendees.

Visit the Commencement Website for more information about the graduation ceremonies.

What is a Hooding Ceremony?

The Hooding Ceremony is a special recognition ceremony for doctoral and master’s degree candidates during which a graduate faculty member places the master's or doctoral hood over the head of the graduate, signifying the graduate's success in completing the graduate program. The ceremony is similar to a graduation in that faculty and students are dressed in academic attire (regalia). The Hooding Ceremony is in addition to and does not replace the main University Commencement at the Patriot Plaza on May 2, in which all graduates may participate.
